Jos Mottershead started  his career as an amateur in the Puckeridge Hunt stables at Brent Pelham which  after a while evolved into a part time paid position. In his spare time on Sunday mornings.   He very much enjoyed whipping into the Barclay Rabbit Hounds which had just been formed. He then progressed  to be Second Whipper in at the South Herefordshire before taking the job of First Whipper in at the Oakley.

Taking a year off Jos then had time to travel during which time he had the opportunity to whip in to the Copenhagen Draghounds and was awarded the “Medingen Jagt Knopf” (Medingen Hunt Button) at Klosterhof Medingen in Germany. He then returned to England to whip in as an amateur to the Enfield Chace before emigrating to Nova Scotia in Canada where he hunted the Annapolis Valley for three seasons and then on and off for another 10 years as an amateur.

He now works for Equine Reproductions and lives at Wynnwood in Oklahoma.

The following photos were taken during his time as huntsman at the Annapolis Valley Hunt during the ’80’s.
